Albite
February 19th - Updated
NEW FIND!  Cavansite on Stilbite - One person it is always worthwhile to visit is Hemant Merchant of Mineral Decor.  He almost always seems to turn up something interesting from India.  Sure enough this year he has some spherical masses of stilbite associated with cavansite from the wagholi quarry in Poona, India.  The stilbite grew on pebbles within the trap basalts and when the quarry was expanded through dyanamite the stilbite was blown off. They look like little bubbles and the vast majority were devoid of any other mineral associations. However,an interesting association is the bow ties of cavansite. Almost uniformly the cavansite formed that way. Occasional single crystals and spherical masses were also found.  I was happy to pick out seven pieces from his selection..

Albite
February 2nd
NEW FIND! Blue Albite var. Cleavelandite - Last September Joe Dorris had a couple specimens of these blue colored albite variety cleavelandite available at the Denver Show. They are from the Lake Delmo area in Jefferson County, Montana.  I saw Joe early on and he had brought a few more pieces for me to look at.  I picked out five of these very unusally colored feldspar specimens.

Linarite & Brochantite
February 2nd
NEW FIND! Linarite & Brochantite - I stumbled across a new find of linarite and brochantite from the Rajos de California Mine in Copiapo, Chile. Ramos minerals had four specimens and I bought all four. The linarite occurs as compact crystalline masses while the brochantite is acicular in habit. They are on a matrix of chrysocola and goethite..
Cobaltoan calcite
February 2nd
NEW FIND! Cobaltoan Calcite -   Spirifer minerals has a new batch of cobalto calcite from Morocco. Most are pale pink but I did get a few with rich lilac color. They were all very reasonably priced too. They are from the agoudal mine, Bou Azzer, Morocco.

Pearcite & Proustite from Morocco

Rose Quartz from Brazil

Aquamarine & Topaz on
Quartz from Pakistan

Mixed Specimens from the Tucson Show - Here's the first blast of mixed minerals from the 2013 Tucson Show.

Fluorite from South Africa

Quartz from Pakistan

NEW FIND! Fluorite-   Leonard Himes was the only dealer I saw who had them. The exact locality is Vioolsdrif, North Cape Province.  There are two distinct habits with one group consisting of violet crystals with stair stepped cubes aligned to form crude octahedrons.  The other habit is grouped cubic crystals with amber color and green octahedral phantoms.  All are associated with quartz.

Gilles Emringe Collection -  Ian Bruce and Kristalle had the entire collection of Gilles Emringer available. The collection of French Minerals is stunning! This collection of French specimens is likely surpassed only at the Sorbonne museum in Paris. I was fortunate to be able to view the material and snap a few pictures before they were taken by collectors and dealers. I also grabbed this lot for the update.

Rutile from Azerbaijian

Datolite from Russia

Brendelite from Germany
February 18th
Mixed Specimens from the Tucson Show -  Here's the last blast of mixed minerals from the 2013 Tucson Show. Of special interest are the three brendelite specimens from Germany.  These came to me through Dr. Mark Feinglos. Brendelite is a very very rare phosphate of lead and bismuth.
