SOLD OUT - Cobaltarthurite - Jorde Fabre had specimens of the new mineral aobaltarthurite available.  This mineral from this locality was published in the Mineralogical Record this past summer and Jorde had specimens with handwritten labels signed by the author of the article and collector of the specimens.

SOLD OUT - Amazonite from Afghanistan - Dudley Blauwet had some decent and reasonably priced specimens of amazonite from Afghanistan.  These are not new to the world.  Specimens from this Afghan locality are among the best crystals of amazonite known however due to their rich color and translucency.

SOLD OUT - Fluorite from Pakistan - Dudley Blauwet also had four specimens of richly colored etched fluorite - some with crystals of topaz. The fluorite from this locality fluoresces a bright green under SW UV light and it phosphoresces several seconds after the light is removed.

SOLD OUT - Aragonite from Nevada - I had seen these last winter while visiting Scott Werschky and Alan Day in Reno, Nevada.  They were fresh out of the ground then and here they had only a small handful left. These two specimens that I bought from them come from the Northern Lights Mine near Yerrington, Mineral County, Nevada.

Crystallized Gold - The theme for the 50th Anniversary of the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show is Gold.  I have place 15 specimens of crystallized gold - almost all from the Eagle's Nest Mine in California up for your perusal and consideration.

SOLD OUT - Gem Grossular from Tanzania - On a tip from Keith Hayes I went to the Pueblo Inn.  There I found a German dealer offering crystals of the famous gem grossular from the Merelani Hills in Tanzania.   These have to be seen to be fully appreciated for their clarity, luster and color.

SOLD OUT - Nigerian Spessartine - I found a nice lot of small but nearly perfect crystals of gem spessartine.  These are really quite reasonably priced.

Mimetite-II - The first batch was sold out quickly so I scoured Tucson to find more of the new material.  Prices have shot through the roof on this stuff but I did find four more of the single crystals in the same price range as the first group.   This will be the last of these that I will post.  If you want a larger piece get ready to dig deep elsewhere.  I won't carry them at the prices I am seeing here.

SOLD OUT - Rutile from Brazil - Luiz Menezes had some very fine specimens of lustrous reticulated rutile.  These were all thumbnail sized specimens.

Powellite from India - There was a fair supply of powellite crystals here at Tucson this year - much great quantity than in years past and at prices about 1/2 or more.  I obtained 13 specimens in all with pieces priced from $150 to $1000.  There is even a rare green specimen! All of these come from Nasik, India

SOLD OUT - Torbernite from France - Danny Trinchillo, who operates out of a converted house adjacent to the Inn Suites Hotel, picked up some of the best torbernites from Margabal, Entraygue, Aveyron, France I have seen in a long while!!!  These are the remains of the collection of Gilles Emringer who hoarded the best of the lot that came out in the early 1990's.   Sizes Danny has range from thumbnail to small cabinet.  I decided to break my vow to swear off of radioactive minerals made at the Munich Show last year and then proceeded to make a selection from the group of the best small miniatures that were there.  These are really good for torbernite!!

SOLD OUT - Twinned Monazite from Brazil - Luiz Menezes had a nice selection of twinned crystals of monazite from a new find near Beunopolis, Minas Gerais.  Monazite is a rare species containing rare earth elements such as Lathananum, Cerium and Neodymium.  These are some very large crystals for the species.

Chinese Minerals - This a random grouping of specimens from China found here at the show.

General Specimens from the Tucson Show - This is a random group of minerals found here at the show.

Minerals from India - I picked up a small lot of apophyllite, cavansite and one very good fluorite specimen here at Tucson.

Rare Minerals - It is always great to see what can be found in the way of rare minerals at a show like Tucson.  This year is no different.

SOLD OUT - Mimetite from China - Last year there was a buzz about the new mimetite from the Pingtouling Mine in Guangdong, China.  There are more of these this year including some very attractive single crystals reminiscent of the large single vanadinite crystals from Morocco in terms of habit.  The prices have moderated considerably sincel last year.

Pezzottaite from Madagascar - Last year French dealer Laurent Thomas, who specializes in minerals from Madagascar, shook the mineral world up with his stunning specimens of what was later described as a new mineral species called pezzottaite.  The correct pronunciation for this mineral is: pet-zo-tite.  This year at Tucson Laurent has a couple hundred specimen of the mineral available with both single and matrix specimens.  The vast majority of specimens are single loose crystals.  This is largely the same material that he had in Munich as there has been no new production of this mineral and the prospects for future production is now confirmed to be quite low to non-existent.   The prices for this new species are not low and they never will be due to the scarcity and uniqueness of the find. It is also suitable as a cut stone or as cabachons.

Japan Law Twin Amethyst Sceptres - Laurent also had three of these in his inventory from Andilamena, Toamasina.  Single amethyst scepters are not rare from this locality but Japan Law Twins (Japan Law twinning refers to two crystals of quartz which share an plane and diverge at a little over 84 degrees) are very rare.  I scooped up the three that he had with clear amethyst coloring.  Two of these have micro inclusions of lepidocrocite.

SOLD OUT - New Octahedral Fluorite from China - I saw a couple of these at the Munich Show last October/November so they are not exactly new but there are more of them here in Tucson this year.  The specimens are all dissolved from encasing quartz so the back side of these always displays natural etching caused when they were crystallized.  The luster is matted on 99.99 percent of the specimens I have seen.  The colors range from light green to sea green to bluish green. Almost all have some violet tinges on the outer fringes of the crystals.  The vast majority of the specimens here are large cabinet to enormous cabinet in sizes. Finding specimens in the small miniature to small cabinet sized proved to be rather difficult suggesting that this is a rare size for these.

SOLD OUT - New Russian Minerals - There is a new find of fluorite from Dal' Negorsk this year from matted luster crystals of cubic and dodecahedral form.  Also here are some really fine specimens of pyrrhotite with galena and/or sphalerite associations.   I have also tossed a large cabinet specimen of crocoite from the Ural Mountains into this group.

SOLD OUT - Pink Halite from Searles Lake - On my way down to Tucson I stopped off in Tehachapi, California to visit with John Seibel and his wife Barbara.  John is well known for traveling around the western USA field collecting all sorts of minerals. This year John found some more of the rich pink colored halite at Searles Lake. Halite of this quality from the lake is not always available as its formation depends on the quantity and timing of rainwater.  Bacteria are responsible for the coloration of the halite.  I selected the best 7 specimens from his entire field production of 2003.

SOLD OUT - Blue Lawsonite from California -  California dealer Steve Perry happened upon a very fine and old hoard of the rare mineral lawsonite a few months ago. These specimens all come from the type locality for lawsonite which is the Reed Ranch Road near Tiburon, Marin County, California.   Steve gave me the story on these as follows:  They were collected between 1952 and 1956 based on the dates of old newspapers which the specimens were wrapped in.  Evidently they had been stored in a garage in the San Francisco area since that time. The fellow who collected them passed away in 1970 and his widow died in April of last year. The kids of the deceased declared that the garage had to be cleaned out so the house could be sold.  Steve was contacted by the heirs and now has the best lawsonite seen in decades! Some of these specimens have enormous crystals over 1.5 cm across!!!  (Special note: this locality is nosw completely lost as houses have been built over the entire area...)

SOLD OUT - Cuprite variety Chalcotrichite from China - I have seen several Chinese dealers with some fabulous specimens of chalcotrichite.  This mineral is a hair-like varietal form of cuprite.  The color is bright red and they are all lustrous. These are not new to the mineral world but they are quite appealing.  I made selections of these based on the highest probability of surviving shipment.

Manganite from Ilfeld, Germany - Just prior to the show I received a parcel from Germany with over a dozen antique specimens of manganite from the classic, and type locality for manganite, of Ilfeld, Germany.  Almost all of these are accompanied with 1 or 2 hand written labels from the mid and late 1800s. There are several specimens from different localities and also a couple of pyrolusite specimens.

Galkhaite from Nevada

Galkhaite from Nevada - I picked up a flat of glakhaite specimens that  were peronally collected by Fred Pough in 1996 at Getchell, Nevada.  This is not a new find but it is a nice array of specimens of this rare mineral with good pedigree. Galkhaite has a with very unusal chemistry.  It contains: cesium, mercury and thallium. There's 12 specimens posted in all.

Scheelite from Peru
Scheelite from Peru - Here's a small group of eight specimens of scheelite associated with smoky quartz. Most are thumbnail in size and the scheelite is quite lustrous for the most part.  These come from Pasta Bueno, La Libertad, Peru.
