Tourmaline from Pakistan

Tourmaline from Afghanistan

Tourmalines - My good friend and fellow dealer from England, Mark Wrigley, got hold of some very fine and large tourmaline specimens from Afghanistan and Pakistan.  These are on virtual consignment from Mark. Have a look!

Brucite from South Africa

Dravite from Tanzania

Inesite from South Africa

Tucson Minerals - TWO - Here are the remainder of the miscellaneous minerals that I found at the Tucson Show.  About 30 new pieces in all!  The brucite from South Africa is a smoker!

Pyromorphite from Mexico
Pyromorphite from Mexico -  Hawthorneden Minerals had specimens that Beth Gordon had squirreled away 25 years ago of pyromorphite (some with wulfenite) from the San Francisco Mine in Sonora Mexico.  Frank Melanson told me that these had been in his basement for well over 20 years and he'd forgotten about them until cleaning it out this past winter.  I was happy to see these and bought all but 2 or 3 that he had available.

Hydroxylherderite from Brazil
Hydroxylherdite from Brazil -  Hawthorneden Minerals had  these specimens also.  Frank Melanson told me that the miners were in the hunt for more brazilianite specimens while searching in a lower level of the Corrego Frio mine.  They encountered these interesting specimens of hydroxylherderite - many of which are twinned.   After recovery of the specimens the level collapsed forever sealing the mine shut.  According to Frank there won't be any more of these coming from that part of the world again.  One of the specimens featured here was pictured in the January/February 2003 issue of the Mineralogical Record.

Fluorite from Arizona
Fluorite from Arizona -  John Seibel had specimens of fluorite from the Oatman district that were found recently.  These are some of the best green fluorite ever found in Arizona!   All have octahedral habit and all are lightly to moderately etched.  They are somewhat similar in appearance to Wise mine fluorite though not nearly as dark green.

Collinsite from Canada
Collinsite from Canada -  Rod & Helen Tyson had specimens of Collinisite available from the Yukon.  These are some exception thumbnail sized specimens of this rare phosphate.

Amethyst from Afghanistan
New Find! Amethyst from Afghanistan -  Before leaving Tucson I went back to my contact from Pakistan and picked out the last of the decent specimens from the new find in the Koh-I-Sulaman Mts., Ghazni, Afghanistan.  These first came out in September of 2002.  They have a pegmatitic origin which is somehwat unusual and most have an unknown inclusion of a hair like or acicular mineral.  Also, all of the crystals are partly smoky.
All of the specimens below this point are remaining from the initial Tucson 2003 updates.  They have all been discounted from 15% to 25% off the prices marked.

Exceptional Epidote from Kenya

Pretty goood Epidote from Kenya
:^)
ALL Specimens 25% off price marked.
New Find! Epidote from Kenya - Wayne Thompson and several others have finished working a new find of world class epidote from Kenya.  The locality information for this find is sparse as there is no village anywhere near it and to get there requires a trip via helicopter or horseback.  According to Wayne the there may be some very limited production in the future but the nature of the deposit (lenticular and podiform skarns) and the fact that the pit walls collapsed filling the pit with rubble would suggest that what was found is all that will be found.  A major museum curator deemed this as one of the 4 best localities for epidote in the world.  Wayne explained to me that there were what he considered to be fifty major museum quality specimens found, about 100 exceptional specimens recovered, and about another 850 minor to excellent pieces.  That's it - about 1000 specimens in all.  He even numbered the labels of the best fifty found.  There were two specimens with crystalline hematite associations.  I was quite pleased to get one of those and equally pleased to be able to put eight of the fifty best specimens in existence from this find on the web.  The prices for these are what Wayne is asking.  There is no mark up on my end and all pieces will come with one of Wayne's labels with his number on them.   I have also seen all the specimens that Dave Bunk has and made a selection of some smaller thumbnail and miniature specimens.  New finds are great to see!

Rhodochrosite & Fluorite

ALL Specimens 20% off price marked.
Tucson Minerals - ONE - I have been hunting around the shows here the past several days and started to accumulate a hoard of random minerals.  Here's 20 to 25 new specimens for your considertation.  Everyhting from benitoite to rhodochrosite to fluorite to wulfenite and more.

Dravite from Afghanistan

ALL Specimens 20% off price marked.
New Find! Tourmaline var. Dravite from Afghanistan -  Dudley Blauwet of Mountain Minerals found these very interesting new specimens of tourmaline var. dravite during his last trip to Pakistan.  Francois Lietard also had a few specimens of these as well.   They are yellowish green dravite in marble matrix.  Under SW UV light they are very reactive fluorescing yellowish green.  Other minerals are in these specimens too as there are several different colors seen whien hit by the SW UV light source.

Millerite from Nevada
ALL Specimens 20% off price marked.
New Find! Millerite from Nevada -  I had heard about the new millerite specimens from the Meikle mine before arriving here in Tucson.  Two dealers had them - Scott Kleine of Great Basin Minerals and Casey Jones of Geoprime Minerals.   I spoke with Scott about them at length and found that this was a one shot deal.  The miners recognized them as something different and collected some and then the drift they were working in was sealed shut for good.  These specimens typically are comprised of massive pyrite with an almost stalactitic form along with a rare nickel bearing sulfide called violarite.  Upon these are found sprays of millerite crystals.  Some of these are quite attractive and all of them share instant rarity.  You will never see these again according to Scott.

Gold from California
ALL Specimens 15% off price marked.
Gold from California- I visited with Wayne and Dona Leicht and found that they had their usual array of fine gold available from California - primarily the Eagle's Nest mine located in Placer County, California.   I sifted through their inventory and found a nice array of thumbnails to full sized miniatures - all crystallized!

Gold from Nevada
ALL Specimens 20% off price marked.
New Find Gold from Nevada- I stopped on the way down to visit with a collector who provided me with specimens of crystalline gold found recently at the Round Mountain Mine in Nye County, Nevada.   The are quite striking with their brilliance and high degree of crystallization.   Found in recent collecting are specimens with cubes!   Most are leaves with wires and crystals dominated by octahedral habit however. Still, these are new to the market direct from Nevada.

Cerussite

Wulfenite

ALL Specimens 20% off price marked.
Namibian Minerals - I picked up some very high quality specimens from noted Tsumeb collector Marshall Sussman - specimens from Tsumeb and an unusual set of two fluorite specimens from the Windhoek district. Some very superb wulfenite specimens and a rare chalcotrichite included cerussite are this way.

Fluorite
ALL Specimens 20% off price marked.

Fluorite from France - I picked these up at the Munich Show last fall actually.  They needed some cleaning and a bit of trimming to be ready for the web and it took a while to get it done.  Anyway, the past season was a bust again as the snow never really melted from the fluorite producing areas around Chamonix... So, it was necessary to beat the brush to find some good ones.

Rhodochrosite from Peru
ALL Specimens 20% off price marked.
Rhodochrosite from Peru - I visited Miner's Lunchbox in Reno on my way dow to Tucson and was quite pleased to hear from Scott and Alan that they had a box of rhodochrosite that had been left unoped for the past 3 years.  It was well worth the time to unwrap the 300-400 pieces that were there to find these hummers!  Many have an interesting association with dodecahedral fluorite.

Wulfenite
ALL Specimens 25% off price marked.
Wulfenite from the Red Cloud Mine! - I have rounded up the last of the wulfenite specimens from the 2002 Denver Show and have them priced to go.  These are from Collector's Edge who were busy this past summer working the historic Red Cloud Mine in La Paz County, Arizona for specimens of wulfenite.   There are about 20 of these left from last September and priced from $40 to $500.  This is likely to be the last big "hoorah"  from the Red Cloud as the reclamation of the mine is underway.  This is probably the most reasonable these specimens will ever be once the mine rehabilitation is completed.
