Inesite - S. Africa

Plaster Models - 1800's

Pyromorphite - Germany
September 21st
Denver Minerals - 2 -  This link will take you to the second grouping of random minerals found at the Denver Show.  Included are some inetersting antique plaster models of crystals from the late 1800's.

Azurite - Morocco

Azurite - Tsumeb
September 21st
Azurite! -  I found too many nice specimens of azurite at the show and decided to create a special page for some of those not featured elsewhere - primarily specimens from Morocco and Tsumeb.  Many of these are from the now closed Touissit Mine.  These are destined to become classics rivaling many of the great azurite specimens from Tsumeb.

Gem Adularia
September 21st
Adularia from Switzerland -  French dealer Alain Martaud brought a flat of gemmy adularia crystals from a new find made in July of this year at the Giuv Glacier, Val Giuv, Switzerland.  According to Alain, this is the first time such a find has been made in this region with glassy adularia crystals.

Wulfenite - Arizona

Rhodochrosite - Montana
September 21st
Minerals from the United States -  I found a number of fine minerals from the USA at the Show.  Inlcuding specimens of wulfenite from the Red Cloud Mine, Rhodochrosite from Montana, Orpiment from Nevada and more!

Rhodonite - Peru

Hutchinsonite & Orpiment
September 21st
South American Minerals -  Here are a group of interesting minerals from South America found at the Denver Show including: Rhodonite, Hutchinsonite, Proustite, Polybasite, Chalcocite and more.

Axinite

Calcite

September 21st
Russian Minerals -  Here are a small group of Russian specimens of Axinite, Calcite, and one Quartz specimen.

Copper Crystals
September 15th
Native Copper -  Russian dealer Axinite-PM brought some very choice specimens of crystallized native copper to the show from the Itauz Mine located in Djezkazgan, Kazakhstan.  The specimens are all floaters with no point of contact and the majority are striking spinell law twins.

Tourmaline
September 14th
Unusual Tourmaline -  As mentioned in the report I ran into Bill Larson of Pala, International. Bill cherry picked a lot of these unusual tourmaline specimens from a source in Brazil.  The crystals have quartz cores that are pseudomorphs of an earlier generation of tourmaline.  Many have small quartz crystals emerging from the ends of the tourmaline crystals.  There was a subsequent pulse of tourmaline mineralization that grew in epimorphic fashion on the pseudomorphed cores.  The matrix of the specimens is a combination of albite and lepidolite.

Azurite & Malachite

Fluorite on Quartz

September 14th
Chinese Minerals - This is a small assortment of minerals bought from Guangua Liu if AAA minerals.   There are 4 specimens of azurite and a rare flurorite/stibnite combination specimen

Topaz
September 13th
Burmese Topaz - KARP brought several flats of matrix topaz specimens from Burma to the show.  While topaz is not new from Burma specimens with matrix are!  Ivo explained that he has been working with the miners there to collect specimens with matrix instead of automatically chipping the crystals off as they encounter them.  I was fortunate to visit Ivo as he was unpacking his material in his room on Sunday and selected what I feel are among the best available here at the show.

Nevadaite
September 13th
2003 New Species - Nevadaite - Dealers Tony Nikischer and Scott Kleine had specimens of the new mineral nevadaite.  These are found as small acicular crystalline masses associated with small crystals of fluellite and hewettite.  Nevadaite is a very rare phosphate species with the chemical formula: Cu(Al,V,Fe)5(PO4)(F,OH)5*7H2O.

Christelite
September 13th
2003 Christelite - Terry Szenics brought new specimens of another rare mineral called Christelite.  This mineral was actually discovered by Terry though the story has it that Georg Gebhard's wife - Christel Gebhard-Giesen - discovered the mineral.  She in fact recognized the mineral on specimens in Terry's inventory at a show a few years back.  Georg did the description and named the mineral after her.  Christelite is a zinc and copper bearing sulfate with the formula:  Zn3Cu2(SO4)2(OH)6·4(H2O).  Many of the specimen Terry had are associted with paratacamite.

Hydroxylherderite
September 13th
2003 Hydroxylherderite - Brazilian dealer Luiz Menezes brought 20 or specimens of a new find of hydroxylherderite on matrix to the show.  These attractive beige colored crystals are found on albite, muscovite and quartz matrix.  The crystals are typically dark in the center with a subsequent phase of mineralization producing a lighter exterior.

Wulfenite

September 13th
2003 Wulfenite from Chile - Terry Szenics brought a flat of new wulfenite specimens from a new locality - the Chapacase Mine near Maria Elena, Chile. The wulfenite is striking in its deep red color indicating a very high chrome content.  These were known in a few collections in Chile and Terry used his detective skills to locate the mine using a GPS and a general latitude and longitude known for this small deposit.  Terry explained that the wulfenite was limited to a very small zone rich in molybdenum at the mine.

Pezzottaite
September 13th
2003 Pezzottaite - You have seen these offered on this site in the past from the Tucson Show as cesium rich Beryls.  The IMA has in the past two weeks approved these as a new species called Pezzottaite.   Dudley Blauwet of Mountain Minerals had a small hoard of these available - I have seen no other dealer with anything other than shards and partial crystals available of these. I selected only crystals that were complete with a fully developed hexagonal crystal form.  All offered here are the best of what was available here at Denver.

Fluorite
September 9th
2003 Rogerley Mine Fluorite - Here is a small selection of some of the better fluorites found during this past summer's work at the Rogerley Mine in northern England. These specimens all come from the  West Cross Cut, an area of the mine that has produced a limited number of really fine fluorites during the past two summers. The veins appear to be pinching out in this area so we don't know if there will be many more like these ones.  All of the specimens posted here were photographed and described by one of the principal miners - Jesse Fisher

Rhodochrosite
September 9th
Sweet Home mine Rhodochrosite - Here is a selection of fine specimens from one of the most famous holes in the ground for rhodochrosite.   A Denver show would not be complete without a few of these!

Phenakite
September 8th
Random mix of Denver Show specimens - This will lead you to a random assortment of interesting minerals found at the show.

Malachite on Azurite
September 8th
Malacite on Azurite from Idaho - Enroute to the show I stopped in Reno to visit dealer Jack Crowley.  Jack has recently collected some rather attractive specimens of light green zinc rich malachite set on matrix of rich blue azurite.  These specimens come from the Blue Jay mine in Lemhi County, Idaho.  Jack says he will have more of these at the main show later this week.

Aerugite

Fettelite
September 8th
Rare Minerals -  At every show I attend there are always some minerals available of exceptional rarity.  For starters at this show I have specimens of fettelite - a very rare silver/mercury arsenic sulfide and an unimaginably rare specimen of crystalline aerugite with crystals known from only one specimen that was subdivided into several.  There are others and there will be more as the show progresses.

Gold

September 8th
Gold from California and Nevada - I have placed up about 1 dozen specimens of crystallized gold from several California localities and from Round Mountain, Nevada.

Gold

September 8th
Gold from South Africa - While in Chicago a few weeks ago I came across a  surprise.  Very rarely, surprisingly, seen specimens of native gold from one of the working mines of South Africa.  This one is the Crowns Mine located near Johannesburg.

Tip Top Mine

September 8th
Phosphate Minerals from South Dakota - I recently received a shipment of specimens from South Dakota including pieces from the Tip Top mine by Chris Korpi, who has specialized in this locality, and also a few other specimens including sinkankasite.  There are some very fine specimens of tiptopite in this group.  The Tip Top mine is well known for it array of fine specimens of very rare phosphate minerals.   Since the mine is now closed and filled with water the only opportunity to collect specimens will be when hoards like this become available.

Clinozoisite

September 8th
Clinzoisite from Peru - These specimens are actually from the East Coast show held in August but I could not get them posted until now.
