Benitoite & Joaquinite
September 20th
Benitoite Mine Specimens from California - Steve Perry and I cleaned well over 150 new specimens of benitoite and neptunite and combinations thereof for the Denver Show.  I have culled the best 60 or so for this update.  Go to Benitote.Com and click What's New at Benitote.Com.

Gold from California
September 20th
Gold from California - As usual Kristalle had some fine specimens of gold available from the Eagle's Nest mine in Placer County, California.  I picked out several of them for this update.

Elbaite from California

Tarbuttite from Namibia

Fluorite from Illinois
September 13th
Specimens from the Denver Show -   I have put up a baker's dozen of various specimens found here at the Denver Show.

Smoky Quartz
September 13th
Smoky Quartz from France -  French dealer Francois Lietard had a nice selection of water clear smoky quartz crystals found this past summer in France. They are from Arrete des Rochassiers, Talefre Basin, Mt. Blanc near Chamonix, France.  Smoky gems.  Most had well defined s and x faces.  I usually do not get quartz for resale but these were quite exceptional.

Vayrynenite
September 13th
Vayrynenite from Pakistan -   Jeff Fast (JBF Minerals) had several crystals of the rare manganese beryllium phosphate vayrynenite.  The bladed crystals have beautiful salmon color. Jeff had specimen that I thought was very interesting, though expensive, a crystal with an adjoined eosphorite crystal.  These come from Shengus, Haramosh mountains, Northern Areas, Pakistan.

Pyrite
September 13th
Pyrite from Bulgaria -  Isaias Casanova had a few specimens of unusual pyrite specimens set on matrix of black sphalerite and green drusy quartz from the 19th of September mine in Madan, Rhodope Mts., Bulgaria.  This is the same locality that produced the very odd skeletal galena crystals.  Best as I can deduct without my goniometer these are severely distorted pyritohedral forms.

Kermesite
September 13th
Kermesite from China -  One of the great things about mineral shows is that you really have no idea what will show up out of the blue.  While walking the halls I was approached by a collector who had a flat of kermesite from the now defunct Chinese locality in Caiwa Mine, Danfeng County, Shaanxi China.  The kermesite looks black, but is actually deep red when back lit. The crystal sides show cleavage faces where attached to adjacent crystals or are complete singles. Most of the terminations are best described as soft or fuzzy - I know not a technical word but it gets the point acrosss.  This locality produced the largest known crystals of this oxide and sulfide of antimony.  Several specimens in this lot also have a valentinite association. The name Kermesite is derived from the Persian word "qurmizq" which translates to crimson.

Apophyllite on Scolecite
September 13th
Scolecite & Apophyllite from India -  At the Holiday Inn show I visited with K.C Pandy of Superb minerals.  He had the usual array of fantastic zeolites from the Deccan Trapp basalts.  He also had some attractive water clear apophyllites set on crystals of scolecite from Mahodri near Nasik, Mahastra, India.  I picked up three specimens that had nice appeal.

Fluorite from Kazakhstan

Fluorite from Switzerland

Fluorite from Germany
September 10th
Mixed Fluroite specimens from Denver -  I have corraled this diverse group of fluorite specimens here at the show.  There are quite a few specimens from Europe in this group and especially Germany.  There are also a few from Illinois and other US localities.

Rhodochrosite
September 10th
New Find! Rhodochrosite from Colorado - Collector's Edge came up with a new find of rhodochrosite here in Colorado. The locality is the Champion Mine in Hinsdale County, Colorado. The quality is nowhere even remotely close to that found at the famouns Sweet Home mine but these are of good color and coverage.

Fluorite
September 10th
New Find! Fluorite from New Mexico -  Mark Lasater of the Clam Shell had a small supply of a new find of fluorite from the Blanchard area.  This particular find was made by Brian Huntsman in the Fish-Stick Pocket at the Bingham mine, Socorro County, New Mexico.  This locality has produced considerable fluorite in the past but no one has ever found it with these beautiful magenta colored centers.   Mark related to me that shortly after opening the pocket and doing a small amount of collecting the pocket collapsed.  This might end up being all there ever will be of these colorful fluorite specimens.

Olivenite

Epidote

Muscovite ps Spodumene

September 10th
New Find! Olivenite with Cornwallite & Malachite from Brazil- Luiz Menezes had an interesting new locality for olivenite from Ibiajara, Bahia, Brazil. The specimens are gossanous and have abundant elongated, bladed to straw-like crystals of olivenite partially to completely covered with a mix of malachite and cornwallite. When is the last time you saw arsenates from Brazil of any kind???

New Find! Epidote from Brazil - Luiz Menezes also had some nice crystals of twinned epidote from a new find in Dom Gaspar, Bahia, Brazil. The specimens are reminscent of the Keynan specimens seen 5 or 6 years ago in that they are generally opaque and have one or two faces with a frosted luster.

I have also put in two specimens of muscovite pseudomorphing spodumene from the Oro Fino mine in Coronel Murta, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
